Carolyn Brown Heinz grew up in the Pacific Northwest, but longed to see the whole world. She found the perfect career: cultural anthropology, where she discovered India in a series of fieldtrips to Bihar. After a career of academic writing and teaching, she turned to fiction, always a secret love and ambition. Her first novel, The Flaming Fields, was set in the byzantine world of rural Bihar. Kali’s Heel, set in the holy city of Rishikesh, is her second novel.
